Lichfield District Council Awards Rural England Prosperity Grant to Thorpe Estate F&B Development

A major restoration project at the historic Thorpe Estate has been catapulted forward following the award of a grant from Lichfield District Council’s Rural England Prosperity Fund. The funding has been dedicated to essential capital expenditure, transforming a heritage building into a bakery which is set to open on Friday 3rd April 2026. Thorpe Estate can also reveal that Silver Tree Bakery will be the official occupier and this new site will serve as an additional destination for their celebrated artisanal goods.

Preserving Character, Enhancing Efficiency

The funding has been instrumental in breathing new life into the building. This investment ensures that the new venue is built with a focus on both heritage preservation and modern sustainability. Key improvements include:

  • Roof Renewal: A complete overhaul to protect the structural integrity of the site.

  • Windows and Doors: Bespoke windows and doors designed to enhance and compliment the character of the building.

  • Thermal Insulation: The installation of advanced insulation will be coupled with a connection to the estate’s existing renewable energy source, ensuring the venue operates with a minimal carbon footprint.

A New Heart for the Rural Economy

By introducing an F&B offering on site, Thorpe Estate aims to create a vibrant hub for the local community and visitors alike. This project represents a shared vision between the business and Lichfield District Council to promote rural economic growth.

"We’d like to thank Lichfield District Council for their support. This grant has been a catalyst for our vision," says Tristan, Director at Thorpe Estate. "The Rural England Prosperity Fund has allowed us to invest in high-quality, sustainable materials that respect the history of the Estate while ensuring we are prepared for a greener future. We can’t wait to welcome the wider community from April 2026."
